CIP 20th May by Sec 3E - Eyecare at Tidal Village

After the tree planting in the morning, Sec 3E together with their teachers went to the Tidal Village Health Centre for their Service Learning Experience.

Half of the pupils helped to check on the vision of the villagers using vision charts. Prior to this, the pupils attended a half day training on this. The pupils have definitely done well despite the short training received! Instructions printed in English and Melayu were prepared so that they could communicate with the villagers. Language barrier became a small problem when the heart was willing to serve. Living up to our school motto.. Dare to Serve ! Dare to Serve ! Initially we only expected to serve 50 children.. however, the response was so good that even the elderly villagers came forward and wanted their vision to be checked. The pupils of course obliged. So many free spectacles were distributed to the villagers and they were so grateful to be given the gift of vision! Well done pupils for your efforts!

After the children have completed their eye-sight screening, they were directed to the open space outside the centre where the other half of Sec 3E pupils engaged them with story-telling as well as a game of badminton and soccer. The children may be young but they learn so fast! They even taught our pupils how to play soccer with their excellent football skills. It was indeed an eye - opener.
